Information you provide directly: When you sign up for our services, we collect your name, email address, phone number, property address, HCAD account number (if provided), and any property condition notes you share. For iSettle Pack purchases, we also collect payment information through Stripe (we never see or store your full credit card number).
Information we research on your behalf: As part of our service, we access publicly available data from the Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD), Multiple Listing Service (MLS) records, and other public sources to build your property tax evidence package. This includes your property's assessed value history, comparable sales data, and neighborhood market information.
Information collected automatically: We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website. This collects anonymous data such as pages visited, time on site, browser type, and approximate location (city level). We do not use this data to personally identify you.
How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information to provide our property tax protest services, including researching your property, building evidence packages, filing protests with HCAD, communicating with you about your case, and processing payments. We also use your email to send service-related communications such as report delivery, protest status updates, and renewal notices.
If you participate in our review and referral program, we use your information to generate your referral link and apply credits to your account.
How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes. We share your information only in these limited circumstances:
HCAD and government agencies: If you use our Full Service, we submit your property information and evidence to the Harris County Appraisal District as part of the protest process. This is necessary to provide the service you've requested.
Payment processing: We use Stripe to process payments. Stripe receives your payment information directly and is governed by their own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
Analytics: We use Google Analytics, which processes anonymous usage data. Google's privacy policy applies to this data.
Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights.
Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction. Our website uses SSL encryption (HTTPS) for all data transmission. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers. Access to customer data is limited to authorized personnel only.
Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Property research data and evidence packages are retained for at least 3 years to support potential future protests. You may request deletion of your data at any time by emailing hello@proptaxlab.com.
Cookies
Our website uses cookies for Google Analytics (to understand site usage) and basic functionality. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking across other websites. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, though this may affect site functionality.
Your Rights
